Bridge Engineer - EI
About the role
Join our Indiana Bridge Team as a Bridge Design Engineer, EI. You’ll learn directly from veteran bridge engineers while gaining exposure to unique projects for INDOT and Local Government clients across Indiana, as well as opportunities to assist in surrounding states including Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia. This position is based out of the Fishers, Indiana office.
Responsibilities
- Design bridges and other transportation structures in collaboration with a professional engineer, including engineering analyses, geometric layout, bid package documents, construction plans, and specifications.
- Participate in technical and feasibility studies by applying appropriate specifications, standards, and design criteria.
- Serve as a field inspector on NBIS inspection teams.
- Pursue professional development, including working toward a professional engineering license.
- Collaborate with engineering professionals from various departments and disciplines to meet client needs.
- Use computer engineering programs and CAD to develop detailed designs.
- Receive and respond to coaching and mentoring from higher-level staff.
- Occasional seasonal travel for bridge inspection with overnight stays.
- Apply INDOT standard specifications to prepare contract documents and project quantity computations.
- Utilize spreadsheets and design tools to accomplish project tasks.
- Manage time effectively with proactive communication between you and your supervisor.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience.
- B.S. or M.S. in Engineering.
- Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and obtained Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Engineering-Intern (EI) certification.
Skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and design tools.
- Ability to perform design tasks and assist with field activities, CAD work, permit applications, and report writing.
- Effective personal task management.
