Bridge Engineer

About the role

The Civil/Structural Team at KPFF Seattle is composed primarily of structural engineers who design and evaluate infrastructure that connects communities. Our work spans a wide range of bridge and heavy-civil projects, including highway and pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, structures that support fish passage, ferry terminals, piers, wharves, and structural inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Design single and multi-span bridges using engineering software.
  • Apply advanced seismic design and soil-structure interaction principles.
  • Perform load ratings for simple and complex bridges.
  • Conduct inspections and field work.
  • Supervise Designers and Drafters.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
  • Manage RFIs, submittals, and assist with change orders during construction.
  • Review project scope and identify out-of-scope work.
  • Maintain budgets and schedules.
  • Interact with clients and subconsultants to maintain strong relationships.
  • Provide feedback and mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

  • BSCE with emphasis in Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in Washington State or the ability to obtain via reciprocity
  • 4-7 years of experience
  • Preferred qualifications include MSCE or MSE with emphasis in Structural Engineering, experience in the design and construction of reinforced concrete and structural steel structures, proficiency with CSI Software Suite (SAP, CSI Bridge), PG Super Strong, and technical and organizational abilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passionate about providing exceptional client services.

Additional Information

  • Physical Demands: Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table. Occasional lifting up to 15 lbs. Visiting project locations and performing field inspections may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain. Traveling to project sites or client meetings may involve driving or flying.

Compensation

The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected pay for a qualified candidate is $95,000 - $115,000. Additionally, we offer performance-based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each Reporting Center.
