Bridge Engineer

About the role

To support our continued success and growth in New England, CDM Smith is seeking an experienced and motivated Bridge Engineer to join our expanding bridge group.

Responsibilities

• Leading and supporting bridge projects from scoping through final plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) and construction engineering services
• Designing a variety of bridge structures, including steel, reinforced concrete, prestressed, and post-tensioned systems
• Designing related infrastructure such as retaining walls, gantries, and foundations
• Performing bridge load rating analyses
• Supporting bridge and culvert inspections
• Collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, constructible designs
• Utilizing advanced technologies in bridge design, modeling, and inspection
• Gaining exposure to multiple delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and CM-at-Risk
• Playing a key role in shaping the growth of our bridge practice in Massachusetts and beyond

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering or related discipline
• Professional engineering (PE) license
• 7 years of related experience
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required
• The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
• PE license in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire with ability to get reciprocity a plus
• Massachusetts SE license
• 7+ years of MassDOT bridge design experience
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation / OpenBridge
• Experience with structural modeling tools such as STAAD, CSI Bridge, MIDAS, AASHTOWare, or LARSA 4D
• Experience with MBTA, Massport, NHDOT, CTDOT, or RIDOT projects
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with movable bridge design and/or tunnel design/analysis
