About the role

Join the Structures team as a Bridge Design Engineer II and work on the design of simple and complex bridges (primarily steel and concrete) as well as transportation-related structures such as retaining walls, culverts, sign structures, and other miscellaneous structures. This position involves developing contract plans, preparing engineer’s estimates and construction specifications, and providing construction support services.

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepare details of project plans, estimates, calculate quantities, perform structural calculations, and prepare reports and exhibits.
  • Prepare aspects of specifications as assigned and directed.
  • Work closely with CAD drafters on the preparation of detailed plans.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the correlation between calculations, plans, specifications, and estimates.
  • Apply design manuals, agency standards, and procedures.
  • Mentor and delegate appropriate design-level and technical tasks to entry-level staff, technicians, and interns.
  • Attend and actively participate in professional organization activities.
  • Provide QC support by following outlined procedures.
  • Support the construction phase, demonstrating understanding of construction methodologies, techniques, and associated working space.
  • Prepare plans using current engineering drafting software (AutoCAD or MicroStation).
  • Prepare calculations using engineering design software (SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, Xtract, etc.).
  • Prepare detailed design and quantity calculations in a clear and organized manner.
  • Convey technical information using clear verbal and written skills.
  • Develop working relationships with outside contacts such as utilities, regulatory agencies, and sub-consultants.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposal packages and exhibits.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil or Structural Engineering; concentration in structures strongly preferred. MS in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred.
  • 2–4+ years of progressive relevant structural engineering experience.
  • EIT required; California Professional license (PE) is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Proficiency in SAP 2000, VBridge, VBent, WinABUD, XTRACT, or similar design programs.
  • Proficiency in general engineering principles, statics, dynamics of structures, and general engineering design.
  • Proficiency in structural design for reinforced concrete; basic knowledge of steel, timber, and masonry design is a plus.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with diverse individuals.

Pay

The offered base rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
