BRIDGE DESIGN ENGINEER

About the role

Othon, Inc. is currently seeking a Bridge Design Engineer for immediate employment at the Houston, TX location. We are looking for a self-motivated, aggressively enterprising individual wanting to expand their career opportunities within a growing consulting engineering firm. The Bridge Design Engineer will report to and be under the supervision of the Structures Business Group Leader.

Responsibilities

• Provide detailed design calculations in support of signed and sealed plan sheets
• Provide preliminary layouts, specifications, bill of quantities and final plan sheets
• Prepare written bridge type selection reports
• Review the work of other engineers
• Train and mentor less experienced engineers
• Supervise and review the work of CAD drafting technicians
• Work closely with other disciplines within the company

Qualifications

Minimum requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis on structures preferred) from an ABET accredited institution
• Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas
• 10+ years of experience in the design of highway bridges
• Experience with Texas Department of Transportation design and plan development
• Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
• Working knowledge of MicroStation drafting software
• Working knowledge of TxDOT design software such as BGS (Bridge Geometry System) and PGSUPER
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Good verbal and written communication skills

Preferred requirements

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis on structures) from an ABET accredited institution
• Experience with OpenBridge Modeler and/or OpenBridge Designer
• Ability to attain reciprocity in other states for professional licensing
• Working knowledge of VBent substructure design software
• Working knowledge of GEOPAK
