About the role

Participates in patient tracking and follow-up processes, assists with recalls, additional imaging coordination, and biopsy scheduling as required by departmental workflows. Supports breast center initiatives, such as accreditation preparation, community screening events, or quality improvement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a key member of the breast imaging team by performing high-quality mammography exams in accordance with provider orders and departmental protocols, ensuring optimal image quality for accurate diagnosis.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR) and PACS systems.
  • Maintains exam rooms, ensures equipment is cleaned and checked for safety, and notifies when inventory is low.
  • Performs daily system quality control (QC) checks in compliance with departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Positions patients and operates mammography equipment to obtain optimal images, adjusts technical factors and compression as needed.
  • Ensures patient identification, safety, and comfort, explains procedures clearly, addresses questions or concerns with professionalism and compassion.
  • Collaborates with radiologists and breast imaging team to ensure accurate imaging and timely communication of results or next steps.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Mammography and Diagnostic Radiological Procedures/Positions
  • Ability to determine appropriate technical factors
  • Knowledge of Mammography equipment and MQSA and ACR regulations
  • Ability to learn and master new tasks related to Image Quality and Radiation Safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with people of various diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to complete Mammography exams in a timely manner even under stressful conditions
  • Good organizational skills
  • Knowledge of PACS and associated equipment
  • Must be able to read, write and speak conversational English
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to make judgments on a regular basis regarding exam protocols and imaging techniques, based upon patient condition and provisional diagnosis
  • Ability to quickly learn and follow departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintain all required registries and licenses to perform imaging procedures
  • Ability to follow Basic Radiation Safety concepts of time, distance, and shielding to keep exposure levels ALARA for patients and staff

Qualifications

  • High School Grad or Equivalent
  • Associate Preferred
  • Field Of Study N/A
  • 1+ year of experience
