About the role
The Daily Beast is seeking a talented, motivated, and dependable Breaking News Intern to join the Cheat Sheet/breaking news team on-site in New York. Open to undergraduate juniors and seniors, graduate students, and post-grads, this internship offers an exciting opportunity for emerging journalists to learn how a newsroom works while gaining hands-on experience. The role is full-time (37.5 hours/week) for three-month periods between September through November and includes evening and weekend shifts.
Responsibilities
- Write breaking news quickly and cleanly with some flair
- Take initiative and direction in a fast-paced newsroom environment
- Meet quick deadlines
Requirements
- Experience writing breaking news
- A voracious news diet covering politics, pop culture, power, and major national and global issues
- Comfort working under tight deadlines
Qualifications
- Prior knowledge of web publishing and using a content management system is a plus
Pay
$19.00 per hour
Schedule
Full-time (37.5 hours/week), including evening and weekend shifts, for three-month periods between September and November.
