Responsibilities
- Prepare a wide variety of goods such as scones, desserts, cakes, cookies, pies, bread, etc., following traditional and modern recipes.
- Report for duty on time and use the time clock to check in and out.
- Manage your time, including taking rest and meal breaks in compliance with New York Labor Law.
- Keep Manager informed when leaving the station.
- Follow recipes according to guidelines and prepare all pastry items, as well as breads.
- Adhere to recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as directed by the Chef.
- Collaborate with Chefs to create new and exciting desserts according to the season.
- Restock all items as needed throughout the shift.
- Clean and maintain station while practicing good safety, sanitation, and organizational skills.
- Understand and properly use and maintain all equipment in the station.
- Assist with other kitchen duties assigned by the Chefs to ensure all department needs are met.
- Commit to quality service and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
Requirements
- Flexible schedule.
- 1 to 2 years of related experience.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills.
- Ability to take direction and work in a team environment.
- Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
- Problem-solving abilities; self-motivated and organized.
- Previous baking/pastry experience.
- Understanding of basic cooking skills, knife handling, and safety.
- Ability to work with speed, efficiency, and longevity.
- Willingness to learn.
Skills
- Ability to use all relevant baking and kitchen equipment.
- Understanding, knowledge, and ability to comply with safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures.
- Ability to prioritize work activities and provide accurate information and assistance to management or colleagues in a timely and courteous manner.
- Ability to remain calm when faced with unusual situations.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Physical Demands
- Able to walk and stand for long periods of time (8 - 12 hours).
- Must be able to move, pull, push, carry, or lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds regularly.
- Must be able to seize, grasp, turn, and hold objects with hands regularly and in frequent or repetitive motions.
- Must be able to reach items at varying height levels (on shelves, on ground, etc.).
- Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch, and climb as required.
- Must be able to work in conditions of environmental exposure to cold, heat, and water.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Other Requirements
- Completion of sexual harassment training.
- Understanding of and ability to abide by the rules of the Department of Health related to Food Service.
Pay
$18.42 - $23.00/hour + tips.
