Brand Designer
Blacksmith builds infrastructure to run CI workloads at scale. Our first product accelerates GitHub Actions by operating a global fleet of bare-metal machines, orchestrating tens of millions of Firecracker VMs weekly for 5,000+ companies and reaching ~$50M ARR in 2.5 years. We manage thousands of bare-metal servers across multiple regions, schedule 100k+ vCPUs concurrently, and run a petabyte-scale Ceph cluster in-house. Backed by $58.5M from Seed to Series B (led by GV and Peak XV), we’re extending our CI infrastructure into a broader platform for agent sandboxes and a background coding agent.
About the role
As our first in-house Brand Designer, you’ll inherit and evolve a well-established brand system built with an advisor and investor. You’ll own how Blacksmith looks and sounds across every surface—website, social, events, decks, swag, and more—translating complex technical concepts into visuals that resonate with engineers. Your work will include building a flexible visual system that scales across product lines, collaborating with founders and engineering on launch narratives, and raising the bar on craft while maintaining speed.
Responsibilities
- Own Blacksmith’s visual and verbal identity across all touchpoints: website, social media, events, presentations, swag, and beyond.
- Translate technical concepts into engaging, credible visuals for a developer audience.
- Develop a scalable visual system that evolves with multiple product lines, avoiding static guidelines.
- Collaborate directly with founders and engineering to craft launch narratives, from storytelling to assets for Hacker News, X, and the blog.
- Ship fast, iterate publicly, and treat the brand as a living entity that grows alongside the product.
- Uphold high standards of craft while moving quickly, ensuring quality across the team.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in a brand design role, preferably in developer tools, infrastructure, or complex B2B products.
- A portfolio demonstrating systems thinking and versatility across web, motion, print, and presentations, with strong typography and layout.
- Experience building or evolving a brand for a technical product, not just executing within an existing system.
- Ability to articulate design decisions and align engineers and founders with your vision.
- Comfort with ambiguity, a love for prototyping, and expertise in using agentic tools to expedite design exploration.
- Maniacal attention to polish and an instinct for what earns trust with developers.
Benefits
- Medical, vision, and dental insurance.
- Competitive base salary + equity.
- 401k match.
- Unlimited PTO.
- Annual offsite.
- Early-exercise stock options.
- 12 weeks fully paid parental leave (US).
