About the Role

The Producing Branch Manager's primary focus is to drive revenue and manage risk within their branch while building a book of business. Key responsibilities include maintaining a superior level of client service, developing cohesive teams, providing consistent leadership, and assuming accountability for the branch's results. A significant emphasis is placed on the recruitment and retention of Financial Advisors. The role involves fiscal management, personnel management, business ethics, and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The Producing Branch Manager reports directly to the Market Executive or Non-Producing Branch Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Production-Related
    • Build a client base of high net worth households by prospecting and developing new client relationships, and maintain long-term client relationships.
    • Manage client investment needs consistent with firm policies and industry requirements.
    • Stay current with regulatory requirements, financial markets, and new products.
  • Product/Business Knowledge
    • Thoroughly understand the firm’s products and those of its strategic partners; use this knowledge to provide resources and direction to drive sales.
    • Direct the sales force to appropriate firm resources efficiently.
    • Apply product/business knowledge to recruiting efforts, translating competitor offerings into Morgan Stanley Wealth Management products.
  • Sales/Marketing
    • Seek opportunities to grow business and drive sales by capitalizing on firm initiatives.
    • Build strong relationships with corporate departments and strategic partners to support marketing efforts.
    • Drive corporate marketing initiatives to increase market share in high net worth households.
  • Team Building
    • Build an effective team by communicating relevant information timely and conducting regular meetings.
    • Participate in region and market initiatives, including sales, hiring, recruitment, diversity, and community outreach.
    • Grow the branch through lateral hiring, recruiting, and training.
  • Leadership
    • Lead by example to ensure the branch achieves U.S. Wealth Management Group objectives, maintains positive morale, and demonstrates ethical business practices.
    • Proactively identify trends, potential growth areas, and weaknesses to position the branch competitively in the geographic market.
    • Lead branch efforts in sales, results, and client-centered approaches.
    • Identify and develop key talent within the branch.
    • Leverage firm resources to achieve success and act as a coach and mentor for Financial Advisors.
  • Accountability
    • Responsible for the branch’s sales and financial performance.
    • Oversee regulatory, legal, and compliance issues, including risk management for sales, human resources, and legal/regulatory practices.
    • Follow supervisory procedures outlined in the Branch Manager’s Supervisory Manual.
    • Execute the Annual Supervisory Plan.
    • Communicate branch performance and issues to the Complex Manager or Non-Producing Branch Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Financial Advisor (with a satisfactory production and compliance record) or comparable branch management/product area experience.

Qualifications

  • Active Series 7, 8 (or 9 and 10), 66 (or 63 and 65), and 3 registrations (Series 31 acceptable if the branch conducts managed futures business only).
  • Other licenses as required for the role or by management.

Reporting Structure

Directly reports to: Market Executive or Non-Producing Branch Manager.

Direct reports: Resident Managers, Financial Advisors, and Branch Support Staff.
