About the role

As Service Center Manager you provide market and team leadership that delivers exceptional, profitable share growth in a geographic market. You will create a strategic roadmap to become the #1 distributor in the market, lead a high-performing team, drive sales growth through customer acquisition and account penetration, and assume full P&L responsibility for the Service Center.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example to instill Summit’s mission and values; communicate them internally and externally.
  • Create a strategic roadmap to maximize profitable market share growth based on market research and competitor analyses.
  • Foster a best-place-to-work environment through associate development, coaching, and succession planning.
  • Drive an increase in active customers and active SKUs using outbound calling, counter sales, new/declining-customer follow-up, marketing tools, and Summit’s reporting and analytics.
  • Train and coach the salesforce to leverage Summit’s unique sales tools, resources, and services as competitive advantages.
  • Manage account portfolios, prioritizing sales resources on key customers based on current and potential sales.
  • Deepen relationships with existing customers and penetrate new accounts by leveraging Summit’s portfolio of solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Senior VP of Sales and VP of Supply Chain to drive local vendor relationships and participate in district and corporate vendor strategies.
  • Provide sales forecasts and reports to leadership; monitor pipeline against targets and highlight risks.
  • Assume full P&L responsibility for the Service Center, including sales, margin, customer service, and operations.
  • Establish annual sales goals, financial targets, and budgets with your District VP; coach teams to goal fulfillment and take corrective actions when needed.
  • Partner with operational leadership to monitor and improve customer service levels.
  • Analyze and control expenditures to conform to budgetary requirements, including headcount.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience selling to industrial contractors.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in distribution and/or manufacturing of electrical products.
  • Minimum 5 years in leadership positions, managing supervisors/managers in diverse markets and functions.
  • Quantifiable success in formulating sales strategies and driving sales performance.
  • Clear track record of recruiting and developing superior talent.
  • Strong experience in analysis and strategic planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to present information and respond to questions from key decision makers.
  • Ability to operate across diverse audiences, resolve complex business issues diplomatically, and achieve win-win outcomes.
  • Proven ability to develop and deploy innovative customer solutions.
  • Ability to leverage technological solutions to drive efficiencies and increase gross profit margins.
  • Deep financial acumen with demonstrated skills in managing operational budgets and P&Ls in a significant enterprise.
  • History of superior returns on investment within a significant organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep relationships with decision-makers of current and potential Summit customers and suppliers.
  • Familiarity and solid reputation for integrity and results with Summit’s commercial customers and suppliers.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in industrial distribution, supply chain and logistics, business, or engineering.
  • Completion of EPEC Gold.
  • Highly effective user of ERP systems (preferably SAP) and BI tools.

Reporting Relationships

You will directly lead all branch personnel—operational support associates, customer service representatives, counter sales, logistics, outside sales, projects and quotations teams, and technical resources. You will collaborate closely with the Senior VP of Sales, Industrial Sales Managers, Commercial Sales Managers, and Area Sales Managers.
