Branch Manager - Fabrication Shop
Sierra Lobo offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and NASA. This position is located in Las Cruces, NM at NASA’s White Sands Test Facility in the Technical Services Department.
About the role
The Branch Manager will directly supervise and direct an organization of approximately 10 machinists and welders. Responsibilities include acquiring and assigning qualified personnel, conducting performance evaluations, planning salary actions, and making recommendations for hiring and promotions. The role involves interpreting and applying organizational policies, providing leadership to resolve employee problems, and motivating teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of machinists and welders, ensuring efficient use of time and resources while maintaining compliance with all industry and agency standards.
- Ensure timely completion of documentation reviews, recalibration of measuring tools, pressure system recertifications, equipment preventive maintenance, and building safety inspections.
- Drive commitment to continuous improvement and training of personnel.
- Lead the Fabrication Shop team during audits to demonstrate compliance with established industrial and NASA standards, processes, and procedures.
- Acquire and assign qualified personnel to the Fabrication Shop as necessary to cover workload.
- Perform and develop personnel evaluations, and make recommendations for hiring and promotions.
- Interpret and apply organizational policies, resolve employee problems, and champion, coach, and motivate team members.
- Provide assistance in the development of department and company reviews and initiatives.
- Interpret and apply rules from the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- Serve as an effective interface with our NASA customer.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
Requirements
- BS degree in Engineering or related field and eight (8) years of related experience. In lieu of a degree, sixteen (16) years of related experience is required.
- Leadership skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Previous supervisor experience and/or Project Management experience is preferred.
