POSITION: Boys Basketball Head Coach – 7th Grade LOCATION: MacDonald Middle School SALARY: Per ELEA/District Agreement WORK YEAR: 26/27 School Year START DATE: ASAP REPORTS TO: Athletic Coordinator APPLICATION DEADLINE: September 25, 2026 General Summary In alignment with the established policies and procedures of the East Lansing Public School District, the Boys Basketball Head Coach is responsible for overseeing the organization, implementation, and evaluation of the high school interscholastic basketball program. The duties listed below are not intended to be all-inclusive; rather, they are representative of some of the primary responsibilities associated with this position. About The Role Supervises all matters relative to Basketball.Schedules practice sessions according to facility and equipment requirements.Coordinates transportation with the Athletic Office.Governs player conduct and follows established rules.Supervises, in cooperation with assistants, all practices, games and tournaments.Supervises and coordinates assistant coaches as to their duties and responsibilities.Manages the use, care, and inventory of all equipment used (including uniforms).Attends all meetings required by the Michigan Middle School Athletic Association.Abides by the rules and regulations established by the Michigan Middle School Athletic Association and enforces the East Lansing athletic code.Reports all injuries to the Building Principal and ensures proper medical treatment has been received.Instructs athletes in the skills and techniques which are unique to Basketball.Instructs all athletes to show proper respect for other coaches, teams and officials’ decisions.Prepares athletes for later life by instilling physical, mental, emotional, social, and moral values.Conducts pre-season parent/coach meeting. Education, Knowledge And Skills Required Knowledge of the rules and rule changes in Basketball.Middle school coaching experience required.Basketball philosophy, Basketball strategy, drills, biomechanics and first aid skills are required.Prefer B.A. degree.Teaching and motivational skills are necessary.Tournament Basketball background.
