Role Job Description The Welding Subject Matter Expert (SME) is the technical authority on weld joint design, weld process and weld qualification and inspection (including but not limited to copper, aluminum and stainless-steel alloy materials). This technical position bridges the gap between engineering, quality control, operations and suppliers. They ensure strict code compliance and troubleshoot metallurgical challenges. They will elevate internal and supplier welding capabilities, spearhead continuous improvement initiatives, combining heads-on expertise with strategic process development. . Engagement will be for near term and future R&D efforts. Key Responsibilities Include Technical Leadership: Serve as the go-to resource for all welding inquiries, resolving complex metallurgical issues, weld defects, and fabrication hurdles.Workforce Mentorship: Design and deliver advanced training programs and conduct skill assessments to ensure structural and aesthetic standards are consistently met.Process Optimization: Recommend and implement improvements to welding sequences, fixtures, and tooling to maximize workflow efficiency and reduce rework.Quality Assurance: Collaborate closely with Quality teams to develop and manage Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in compliance with industry codes (e.g., ASME, AWS).Safety & Compliance: Champion safe handling of materials and gases, enforce the use of PPE, and uphold strict adherence to safety and ISO standards. Key Skills & Qualifications Education: Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, backed by significant hands-on industry experience (higher level degree preferred). Experience in TIG/GTAW welding of Stainless Steel, Coppler and Aluminum essential.Certifications: Current or past Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential highly preferred. Deep familiarity with AWS D1.6 (Structural Welding Code - Stainless Steel) and ASME Section IX.Technical Knowledge: Superior understanding of stainless-steel metallurgy, heat control, distortion management, and post-weld finishing (passivation, pickling, and polishing).Communication: Exceptional technical writing and presentation skills, with a proven ability to translate complex technical information into actionable engineering solutions.
