Boston Whaler-Gelcoater (Hulls) - Night Shift

Position Overview

As part of the talented Boston Whaler team, you will be responsible for applying gel coat to hulls, decks, and small parts according to our boat orders.

Essential Functions

• Ensure required parts and raw materials are ready to run when they are scheduled
• Arrange material in a certain order or pattern according to documentation using numbers, letters, words or pictures
• Ability to mix pigments and gelcoat materials to achieve accurate color matching
• Acknowledge attention to detail to identify and rectify imperfections in gelcoat finishes
• Display manual dexterity for precise application of gelcoat
• Operate proficiency in using spray guns, brushes, rollers, and other tools used in gelcoat applications
• Show health and safety awareness by adhering to safety protocols and knowing proper handling and disposal of chemicals
• Communicate effectively with team members, boat designers, and customers
• Prioritize tasks, work efficiently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Inspect gelcoat finishes for defects, such as runs, sags, or pinholes, and make necessary adjustments or repairs to ensure a flawless appearance
• Clean and maintain gelcoat application equipment, such as spray guns, to ensure optimal performance and prevent contamination

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• 1+ years of related experience and/or training
• Equivalent combination of education and experience
• Basic computer knowledge
• Ability to read/hear, interpret and/or understand instructions given verbally or written and exchange accurate information with others

Preferred Qualifications

• Proactive team player who is a self-starter with constant attention to improvement
• Prior experience as a gelcoater or in a similar role is highly preferred
• Familiarity with boat manufacturing or repair processes is a plus
• Excellent reasoning skills including researching system discrepancies and kitting errors
• Basic reading comprehension and writing skills, be able to work from verbal and written instructions, be capable of working with computer terminals and be able to complete routine paperwork
• Able to remain extremely focused and organized with a high attention to detail / high degree of accuracy
• Able to work with multiple priorities and people

Working Conditions

• Shop floor working environment
• Shop floor is non-climate controlled
• Frequent exposure to high temperatures, including a hot and humid environment, especially during summer months
• Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, resins, fiberglass dust & cloths, epoxy, composites, and other chemicals
• Ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to regularly bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, reach, climb, and lift or move up to 35 pounds
• Vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
