Boston Regional School Nurse Consultant

Framingham Public Schools seeks a Boston Regional School Nurse Consultant within the Department of Health and Wellness for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time, 200-day position offers professional growth and leadership development opportunities. The role may be eligible for remote work.

About the Role

The Regional Consultant (RC) collaborates closely with the Framingham Public Schools Nursing Team, the School Health Services Unit of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), and other regional consultant colleagues. The position focuses on facilitating school health program design, implementation, and leadership in school nursing practice across an assigned region.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate school health program design and implementation while maintaining high-quality standards of school nursing practice within the assigned region.
• Provide health education using innovative approaches for individuals, schools, and communities.
• Offer updates in all areas of school health, including clinical skills, research, and leadership.
• Collaborate with MDPH, public and private school districts, health officials, and other DPH programs to design programs, policies, and reimbursement strategies for school health services.
• Identify and support Model CSHS programs, Affiliated programs, and all other public, charter, collaborative, and non-public schools in the assigned EOHHS region.
• Provide consultation and technical assistance, including telephone support, meetings, and site visits, covering clinical services, leadership development, policy and program development, and budgeting.
• Partner with BU SHIELD and the MASSTART program to develop and deliver supplementary regional hands-on training for state-mandated screenings and complex care skills, potentially including simulation experiences with local higher education and healthcare partners.
• Schedule and facilitate a minimum of three annual regional meetings (at least five hours each) for school nurse managers to address networking, clinical services, leadership, policy development, emergency preparedness, data collection, and funding opportunities.
• Conduct annual site visits to all CSHS programs, with quarterly visits for programs with new leadership.
• Provide management, financial, and program consultation on CSHS grant funds, including budget expenditure reviews.
• Explore regional issues and resources, such as workforce development and leadership skills, through community partnerships.
• Represent school health on regional emergency planning committees and other relevant coalitions.
• Collaborate with local and regional primary care providers to address healthcare system linkages with school health services.
• Establish and maintain regional communication systems (e.g., listservs, discussion boards) to support learning and time-sensitive information sharing with DPH.
• Attend all required CSHS meetings, including Regional Consultant and CSHS Evaluation meetings.
• Participate in delivering DPH-mandated training programs annually, including Foundations of School Nursing Practice, Medication Administration, Health Screening Programs, and Leadership trainings.
• Work with Boston University SHIELD to provide professional development points (PDPs) or continuing nursing education units (CNEs) for training programs.
• Collaborate with state agencies serving children (e.g., Department of Mental Health, Department of Children and Families) and advise DPH on child health and school health service system development.
• Join other Regional Consultant districts to develop and publish an article on regional Consultant schools in years 2-3 of the contract.

Requirements

• Valid Massachusetts Teaching License.
• Current RN license in Massachusetts.
• Professional school nurse licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Education.
• Current BLS Certification.
• Graduate of an RN Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Nursing.
• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience as a school nurse in Massachusetts.
• Experience in pediatric, public health, or other relevant nursing experience is preferred.
