Bose Lab - Specialist
About the role
The lab of Rohit Bose, MD, PhD at UCSF focuses on understanding tumor evolution in various therapeutic environments using clinically relevant immunocompetent cancer models. The specialist will run the lab, collaborate on research projects, and have the opportunity to lead independent projects.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the smooth day-to-day running and operation of the lab.
- Collaborate with other members on research projects.
- Lead independent projects, develop new ideas, stay updated with the literature, and procure funds, where appropriate.
Requirements
- Junior Specialist: Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
- Assistant Specialist: Master’s degree or a baccalaureate degree with three or more years of research experience.
- Associate Specialist: Master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of relevant research experience.
- Full Specialist: Terminal degree (or equivalent degree) or ten or more years of relevant research experience.
- Flexibility to receive scheduled clinical samples which can arrive after hours.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks precisely (plating cells, loading samples, etc.)
- Skills (verbal and written)
- Willingness and ability to learn new methods and skills for changing research priorities.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a research team.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate work tasks with others, and meet multiple deadlines.
Qualifications
- Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment.
- Candidate’s application materials must state qualifications (or if pending) upon submission.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior lab experience from academic or industry (beyond coursework).
- Familiarity with mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, microscopy, immunostaining, immunofluorescence, molecular biology, use of mouse models.

Salary Range
A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000-$194,800.
