Position Impact

The Bore Operator is responsible for safely operating various drilling equipment, including directional drills and excavation tools, to install and maintain telecommunication infrastructure. This role involves efficiently managing equipment such as backhoes, excavators, skid steers, and tractor trailers. The bore operator plays a crucial role in site maintenance and restoration, ensuring that disturbed areas are appropriately landscaped. Additionally, they are involved in developing and maintaining bore schedules, contributing to the overall project planning.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Eligibility for US Employment without sponsorship
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Valid California Driver's License subject to successful verification through a DMV check
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's license with tanker endorsement preferred but not required
  • Experience with drilling equipment and understanding their capabilities and limitations
  • Basic ability to use small tools/hand tools
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, safety rules and operating instructions
  • Basic proficiency in using locators to safely identify utilities
  • A minimum of two years drill bore operating experience preferred
  • Previous construction experience or utility construction experience preferred
  • Ability to travel to multiple work sites, work overtime, weekends, holidays, or off hours as needed
  • The ability to effectively communicate in English, including speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension, as necessary for effective job performance and workplace communication
  • Proficiency in Spanish Language desirable

Skills

  • Proficient use of MS Office applications including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; teleconferencing applications
  • Functional use of common office equipment, computers, and office software

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Site Preparation, Maintenance and Restoration: Participates in new site Job Safety Analysis (JSA) prior to starting construction Restores and landscapes disturbed areas of the jobsite Responsible for site set-up and clean-up
  • Schedule Management: Develops and maintains a bore schedule for the team
  • Logistics and Tool Management: Loads and unloads tools, materials, and equipment on trucks
  • Adaptability and Collaboration: Demonstrates the ability to follow instructions and performs other duties as assigned
  • Equipment Operations and Site Maintenance: Safely operates various drill equipment on the jobsite, including but not limited to directional drill, backhoe/excavator, skid steer, tractor trailer (moving equipment/hauling water), and vacuum truck/trailer Manages deployment and removal of traffic control devices to ensure safety in work areas on streets or roadways Adheres to and operates within the weight capacity limits specified by manufacturers for equipment and machinery:Ladders: 300-pound manufacturers maximum load capacity Vehicle Maintenance and Travel: Maintains vehicle/equipment pre-op/post-op to be prepared to perform required duties Maintains a clean driving record as defined by the current fleet insurance underwriter
  • Safety Protocols: Adheres to safety protocols and guidelines outlined in the Race employee handbook and job description to promote a safe work environment
