About the Role

The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) administers the city’s tax revenue laws fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service. DOF’s Sheriff’s Office enforces court mandates, serves orders of protection, warrants, and decrees, conducts criminal investigations of real property fraud, tax crimes, and trafficking of illegal and untaxed products, and monitors defendants for electronic monitoring.

The Sheriff’s Administration is seeking an Executive Assistant to perform highly confidential secretarial and administrative work directly for the Deputy Commissioner. The ideal candidate is meticulous, detail-oriented, and excels in verbal and written communication within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, review, and oversee the preparation of vehicles for auction.
  • Respond to inquiries from the Sheriff’s Division and City Marshals regarding booted and towed vehicles.
  • Utilize DOF systems for booting and sales.
  • Maintain files on vehicle status for historical, legal, and operational purposes.
  • Provide files to supervisors and Sheriff executives as needed.
  • Generate and maintain reports on vehicle scofflaws, including the number of vehicles booted, towed, auctioned, and funds from sales.
  • Serve as a point of contact with the public for vehicles in judgment.
  • Produce various revenue reports at the request of the Sheriff.
  • Perform administrative duties such as answering phones, responding to inquiries, and filing paperwork.

Requirements

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or

An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of administrative supervisory experience; or

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of administrative supervisory experience; or

Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with all candidates required to possess one year of administrative or supervisory experience. Education above high school may substitute for general clerical/administrative experience (but not the one year of administrative or supervisory experience) at a rate of 30 semester credits for 6 months of experience, up to a maximum of 3 years.

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws (a plus).
  • Bilingual (a plus).

Pay

$55,105.00 – $63,371.00
