About the Role

Inspects production or first-run parts, units, and assemblies made from a variety of materials such as plastic, fiberglass, metal, or wood, particularly where bonding agents or adhesives are used. Responsibilities include inspecting bonded parts or parts to be bonded prior to, during, and after the bonding process. May disassemble parts at the bond line to assess bond quality and perform various inspection tests to ensure adherence to specifications.

Works from blueprints, specifications, or verbal instructions, using precision measuring instruments, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and templates to determine acceptability. Performs complex inspection layouts and setups to verify work meets required standards or specifications. Rejects items that fail to meet standards and maintains records, graphs, and charts on bonding procedures, tests, and related data.

Aids, guides, and assists other inspectors in proper bonding inspection methods and procedures. Handles the most complex and difficult bonding or attest inspection work. Performs all phases of inspection on formed and machined plastic parts, assemblies, and materials through visual examination or specialized tools to ensure adherence to blueprints, specifications, and standards.

Operates saws, drill presses, shapers, sanders, and pull test machines to prepare and test bonded parts. May perform destructive testing as required.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect bonded parts or parts to be bonded before, during, and after the bonding process.
  • Disassemble parts at bond lines to determine bond quality and perform inspection tests.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and templates to inspect parts against blueprints and specifications.
  • Perform complex inspection layouts and setups to verify compliance with standards.
  • Reject items that fail to meet required standards.
  • Inspect weight and balance of rotor blades using standard mathematical formulas.
  • Maintain records, graphs, and charts on bonding procedures, tests, and related data.
  • Assist and guide other inspectors in proper bonding inspection methods.
  • Inspect formed and machined plastic parts, assemblies, and materials for adherence to specifications, workmanship, and dimensional correctness.
  • Operate saws, drill presses, shapers, sanders, and pull test machines for preparing and testing bonded parts.
  • Perform destructive testing as required.

Requirements

  • Three years of inspection experience in bonding, fabrication, welding, or finishing, or two years of inspection experience plus one year of bonding experience.
  • Proficiency in using saws, drill presses, shapers, sanders, precision measuring instruments, and specialized testing equipment.
  • Ability to perform complex inspection layouts and setups.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee). Non-U.S. persons must meet eligibility requirements for access to export-restricted information.
