About the Role

This maintenance position involves removing, replacing, and repairing various piping systems and working on coal-fired boiler components such as soot blowers, burners, and dampers. Experience with flue gas desulfurization processes and equipment is required. The role includes troubleshooting machinery, dismantling and reassembling pumps, and performing steel and minor pipe fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Read specifications to determine scope of work, including locations, quantities, and sizes of materials.
• Identify and properly use all required tools for tasks.
• Identify safety risks and implement precautions to eliminate them.
• Fabricate equipment according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
• Hoist equipment and tools into position using bull rigging or cranes.
• Perform steel fabrication using torches, band saws, plasma cutters, and grinders.
• Conduct minor pipe fabrication, including field measurements for repair or replacement.
• Prepare pipe and steel for welding procedures.
• Follow supervision directions and stop work for safety concerns or misinformation.
• Read and interpret blueprints, craft specifications, and piece marks for correct installation.
• Apply knowledge of rigging practices and components (e.g., chokers, slings, come-a-longs, chain hoists).
• Perform all aspects of connecting, including bolt-ups, valve installations, and torque wrench usage.
• Read cut sheets, lay out materials, and execute fabrication from drawings.
• Use specialty tools (e.g., torque wrench, plasma cutter, mag drills, Hogan drills).
• Operate cutting torches and understand their setup, usage, and safety.
• Operate equipment such as JLG man baskets, forklifts, and perform basic maintenance and inspections.
• Signal and flag cranes, forklifts, and man lifts safely.
• Tie knots for tag lines and lashing.
• Perform mathematical calculations (footage, fractions, addition, subtraction) for craft duties.
• Perform additional duties as instructed.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience as a Boilermaker.
• NCCER certification (Industrial Boilermaker) or NCCER Plus certification.
• Ability to meet all physical requirements, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
• Possession of all required tools (see tool list).
• Reliable transportation.
• Ability to work a rotating schedule, including nights and weekends.
• Self-motivated with strong leadership abilities.
• Valid driver’s license.

Skills

• Proficiency in reading blueprints and craft specifications.
• Knowledge of rigging practices and components.
• Experience with steel and pipe fabrication tools and techniques.
• Ability to operate and maintain equipment such as man baskets, forklifts, and cranes.
• Strong mathematical skills for craft-related calculations.
• Knowledge of welding, cutting, and specialty tools.
• Ability to identify and mitigate safety risks.
