Boiler Technician (Night Shift Entry Level)

Schedule

Night shift: 6 pm to 6 am, 4 nights on / 4 nights off. 12‑hour shifts with seasonal rotation adjustments.

About the role

This position requires maintaining and operating Metrolina Greenhouses’ boiler systems, their components, and associated equipment — including biomass boilers, natural gas boilers, ESPs, wood and ash conveyor systems, large front‑end loaders, and skid steers. It also involves performing regular inspections, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

This position does not currently have any direct reports.

Responsibilities

• Work independently without constant supervision — manage tasks, troubleshoot issues, and make decisions autonomously.
• Follow all safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
• Provide flexible working hours and overtime as required for system maintenance and operation outside regular hours.
• Operate and maintain front‑end loaders and skid steers.
• Troubleshoot issues and repair or replace components to ensure overall system functioning.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• Familiarity with large grading and loading equipment.
• Willingness to learn and perform general maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and hydronic systems associated with the boiler system.
• Primarily outdoor work with occasional indoor office duties (computers, standard office equipment).
• Fluency to read, write, and understand English.
• Ability to work in all outdoor elements, including dust and allergens.
• Occasional confined‑space entry.
• Long‑term ability for standing, sitting, squatting, bending, reaching, and twisting on a regular basis.
• Ability to operate all required machinery across the facility, including scooters.
• Ability to lift 35 pounds unaided.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with boiler maintenance and operations.
• Welding experience.
• Electrical experience.
