Boiler/Refrigeration Operator U1
About the role
This position monitors the functions of the boiler and refrigeration equipment to ensure efficient, safe, and compliant operation of heating and cooling systems, which are vital for maintaining product quality and safety. It also emphasizes efficient operation of related equipment and coordinates with B&R Mechanics when larger repairs and updates are needed.
Responsibilities
- Starts, operates, and shuts down boiler, refrigeration and auxiliary systems.
- Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals.
- Records equipment data in daily logs and sheets.
- Adjusts manual or automatic controls to bring equipment into prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup systems, or shut down equipment.
- Visually inspects equipment periodically for malfunctions or maintenance needs and takes corrective action.
- Performs preventative and general maintenance (lubricating, tightening, cleaning, etc.) and collaborates with B&R Mechanics for larger repairs.
- Documents removal, installation, disassembly, repair, and assembly of plant equipment.
- Explains the purpose and operation of all boiler and refrigeration equipment and makes decisions on troubleshooting and repairs.
- Updates CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) daily with work order results.
- Performs non-routine maintenance jobs as assigned.
- Maintains organized workspaces, tools, support 5S, and documentation.
Requirements
Lock-out/Tag-out certification is required. If you are not qualified, you will be trained and must meet certification requirements.
Qualifications
- Education/ Certifications: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred. Lock-out/Tag-out certification is required.
- Experience performing maintenance in a manufacturing environment, specifically food processing highly preferred.
- Effectively communicate in English verbally and in writing.
- Ability to understand instructions and follow directions in English, both written and oral.
- Basic computer operation knowledge, data entry skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Skills
- Basic math functions.
- Basic vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties.
- Exposure to manufacturing environments to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergies.

Pay
A reasonable hourly estimate for this role is $32.03.
