About the role
The Fayetteville VA Medical Center (VAMC) is recruiting for a Boiler Plant Operator. Duties primarily involve operation and operational maintenance of single and multiple fuel water or fire tube boilers and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operates, regulates, maintains, and repairs the Boiler Plant Unit of the Utility Systems Operation Section of Facilities Management Service.
- Safely and efficiently operate high pressure automatic gas and oil fired boilers and all associated auxiliary equipment, instruments, electronic/pneumatic controls and measuring devices in a steam generating plant.
- Operates the Chiller Plant and all utility systems and equipment associated with the steam and chilled water distribution systems.
- Maintain utility systems and related equipment in the boiler plant, i.e., valves, pumps, motors, and exhaust fans.
- Monitor other medical center equipment through hardwired devices to the Boiler Plant, i.e., generators, intrusion alarms, space temperatures, etc.
- Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts, subject to change due to position coverage.

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, VISN 6, Fayetteville VAMC, Facilities Management Service, Utilities Section, Fayetteville, NC.

- Experience: Specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.
- Screen-out Element: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.
