Boiler Mechanic MD Grade 1

About the role

The Boiler Mechanic MD Grade 1 position at CMI in Beltsville, MD is responsible for constructing, installing, maintaining, and repairing stationary steam boilers, closed vats, and pressure vessels.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints to assemble boiler tanks and connect pipe systems, valves, and gauges using welding equipment and hand tools.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance like cleaning vats, replacing defective tubes, lubricating moving parts, and ensuring proper water chemical balance.
• Diagnose malfunctions, conduct pressure tests, and replace broken components to prevent leaks and inefficient operation.
• Regulate equipment, adjust controls, and maintain logs of fuel usage and pressure levels to meet Stationary Engineers and Boiler Operators safety and environmental standards.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• At least 5 years of experience of operating and maintaining boiler plants and at least 2 years operating and maintaining boiler plants as MD Grade 1 Stationary Engineer.
• Licensed as Maryland (MD) Stationary Engineer Grade 1 - 500 or more horsepower (in any building).
• Ability to lift heavy objects, navigate tight confined spaces, work at heights, and withstand high-pressure, high-temperature environments.
• Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
• Pass a government background check.
