About the role

The Painter is responsible for refinishing vehicles to meet pre-accident condition or industry standards of quality. You will work with a mentor to learn all aspects of paint refinishing.

Responsibilities

  • Report to Body Shop Foreman or Body Shop Manager and complete assigned duties daily.
  • Maintain proficiency of 60% or better, billing a minimum of 4.8 hours per day.
  • Keep work area safe and clean, following all safety measures for personal and environmental safety.
  • Wear all appropriate safety equipment (PPE) for each task, including eye, hand, lung, and skin protection.
  • Examine damaged vehicles and estimate repair costs; report hidden damage to supervisor immediately.
  • Report any lost or broken parts to the supervisor.
  • Maintain all body shop equipment in good, safe working condition.
  • Maintain spray booth and mixing equipment; keep mixing room in good working condition.
  • Check body repairs before primer is applied.
  • Maintain a level of quality to industry standards and keep repaints to a minimum.
  • Remove all dirt and runs from painted areas.
  • Clean paint areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Mix and apply primers and sealers; sand and prep prime surfaces for finish paint applications.
  • Keep production manager aware of status and alert them to any unusual problems or delays.
  • Clean grease and dirt from product.
  • Apply masking tape over parts and areas not to be coated.
  • Fill cavities and dents with putty to attain a smooth surface.
  • Demonstrate ability to multi-task under pressure.
  • Exhibit positive corporate citizenship and adhere to Rush Driving Principles.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and professional appearance.
  • Follow all Company policies and procedures, including those regarding conduct, record keeping, and safety.
  • Refrain from behavior construed as sexual harassment, harassment, creating a hostile work environment, or workplace violence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 2-3 years minimum experience in commercial vehicle painting and refinishing or a similar position.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability.
  • Proficiency with related hardware/software systems as needed to execute duties.
  • General office skills and knowledge of equipment such as copiers, fax machines, and filing systems.

Pay

Minimum pay rate: USD $24.00 per hour
Maximum pay rate: USD $34.00 per hour
