About the role

The Auto Body Technician’s primary responsibility is providing an exceptional customer experience through meticulous assessment and quality repair of each vehicle to restore it to pre-accident condition. You will disassemble, repair, and reassemble vehicles while upholding the company’s promise of speed, quality, and customer excellence. This role plays a pivotal part in achieving the repair facility’s KPIs and serves as a dedicated Brand Ambassador of The Boyd Group.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistent execution of the WOW (Wow Operating Way) plan.
  • Plan necessary repair work and prepare cost estimates for customers.
  • Use tools such as cutting guns, plasma cutters, hydraulic jacks, hammers, and pliers to repair vehicle sections.
  • Hammer out dents, dimples, and minor body damage; mix and apply filler resins when other methods are not feasible.
  • Realign car chassis and frames to repair structural damage.
  • Remove damaged sections of vehicles and replace them with new or aftermarket parts.
  • Replace or repair glass, windshields, and interior parts as needed.
  • Weld and attach or fit parts into place.
  • Prepare and repaint vehicles with factory-specified paint or agreed-upon equivalent.
  • Attempt to complete work orders within labor time guidelines.
  • Inspect vehicles after repair to ensure all work has been executed correctly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a technical school program OR a 3-year apprenticeship as an auto body repairer.
  • Ability to read job orders and work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate with other repairers in an auto body shop.
  • Thorough understanding of methods and procedures to repair vehicle bodies.
  • Thorough understanding of how to use tools required for the trade.
  • Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to visually inspect vehicle damage in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.

Pay

$20 - $28 per flat-rate hour (negotiable based on experience). Flat Rate Compensation is performance-based and tied to turned (booked) hours. In the event total compensation in a pay period is less than minimum wage, clocked hours will be calculated with a guarantee of applicable local or state minimum wage, whichever is greater.
