About the role
This role is responsible for repairing, fabricating, refinishing, and painting commercial truck bodies and related equipment to meet safety, quality, and customer standards. The ideal candidate has experience with heavy-duty vehicles, strong mechanical aptitude, and pride in producing high-quality work.
Responsibilities
- Perform body repairs on commercial trucks and trailers, including cabs, frames, panels, doors, and bodies
- Repair or replace damaged metal, fiberglass, aluminum, and composite components
- Perform welding, cutting, grinding, straightening, and fabrication as required
- Prepare surfaces for painting (sanding, masking, priming, filling, and sealing)
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company and customer standards
- Use body shop tools and equipment safely and properly
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Communicate with supervisors and team members regarding job progress and issues
- Follow all safety, environmental, and shop procedures
Additional Painter Responsibilities
- Mix paints and coatings to proper specifications and apply using spray equipment
- Paint complete vehicles or components, ensuring color match and finish quality
Requirements
- Body shop experience required
- High school diploma or GED (technical or trade school preferred)
- 2+ years of experience in a commercial truck or heavy equipment body shop (preferred)
- Experience with automotive or industrial painting systems
- Welding experience (MIG preferred; aluminum welding a plus)
- Ability to read work orders, repair plans, and paint specifications
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
- Ability to lift heavy parts and stand for extended periods
- Valid driver’s license (CDL a plus, but not required)
Skills
- Knowledge of commercial truck body construction and materials
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and paint equipment
- Color matching and finish blending skills
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Team-oriented with a strong work ethic
Work Environment
- Shop-based position with exposure to paint fumes, dust, and noise
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
Pay
$20 to $50 hourly pay based on experience. Shift differential and lead/mentor pay available.
