BOCC Controller

About the role
The Bus Operations Call Center (BOCC) Controller oversees day-to-day and timely communication with bus operators and supervisors in the field. We are seeking customer service-oriented professionals dedicated to safety and serving as the eyes on the road for our operators.
The BOCC Controller coordinates and disseminates information to operators, supervisors, and other pertinent staff to ensure on-time bus service. Using a GPS CAD/AVL system, the Controller proactively manages the day-to-day road operations of transit service delivered by Transdev.
Responsibilities
- Provides verbal direction to bus operators and assistance to road supervisors and others.
- Proactively intervenes, using all available resources, to ensure the safest high-quality service is provided.
- Collaborates with local Transdev operating divisions and the client regarding service interruptions, on-time performance issues, detours, bus stop concerns, lost & found items, service capacity, and other needs.
- Documents service incidents in various database systems, including accidents, medical/first responder events, mechanical defects/road calls, full & passing events, etc.
- Documents and refers disciplinary actions to the BOCC Supervisor as directed by management, including verbal counseling, written counseling, and written work rule violation notices.
- Documents and refers commendations to the BOCC Manager.
- Resolves disputes and concerns raised by employees.
- Handles multiple tasks accurately and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Performs other duties as required, including cross-training in various roles.
Requirements
- Some college preferred.
- 3 years’ experience in heavy radio or dispatch preferred, preferably in a transit environment.
- Experience with computer databases and MS Word software required.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to communicate instructions and directions in an extremely busy environment.
- Ability to quickly analyze situations and provide effective solutions.
- Ability to work under stressful situations.
- Knowledge of the service area.
- Knowledge of or ability to learn working systems of coaches.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Knowledge of two-way radio systems is essential.
- Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customers at all levels and work well with diverse groups.
- Travel requirement: less than 5% for occasional meetings.
Physical Demands
- Work is generally done sitting at a desk, utilizing repetitive hand and wrist motion.
- Lifting, stooping, pulling, and bending may be required.
- 100% of work is accomplished indoors in air-conditioned or well-ventilated facilities.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Performs physical activities requiring considerable use of arms, repetitive hand-wrist motion, and legs, including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
- Must be able to lift or handle up to 25 pounds.
