About the Role

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges manages the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring public safety and mobility for all users. Under supervision, a Bridge Painter prepares and paints iron and steel components on bridges and other elevated structures.

Responsibilities

• Chip, clean, and prepare iron and steel surfaces.
• Rig line and tackle and mix colors and paints.
• Perform lead removal and containment.
• Remove graffiti on the arterial highway system.
• Drive trucks and other motor vehicles.
• Perform other related duties.

Requirements

• Five years of full-time satisfactory experience performing structural steel painting, defined as painting bridges, towers, aerials, tanks, or other elevated steel structures using rigging and scaffolding.
• At least three years of this experience must have been at the journeyman/journeywoman level (fully trained, knowledgeable, experienced, and proficient in elevated steel structures painting).
• At the time of appointment, must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. Serious moving violations, license suspension, or accident record may disqualify.
• Must obtain a New York State Class B Commercial Driver License with no restrictions within the probationary period and maintain it for the duration of employment.

Pay

$459.13 per day.

Schedule

7:00 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
