BOB- Associate Project Manager II

About the role

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City.

Responsibilities

• Assign and coordinate the activities of in-house crews, making flag and corrective repairs to the city’s elevated infrastructure
• Review engineering plans in preparation for repair jobs
• Prepare work tickets and lane closure applications and draft U.S. Coast Guard notices of upcoming work
• Coordinate with skilled trades in the field to solve logistical problems and ensure safety standards are maintained
• Monitor daily progress of projects and confirm the use of materials per industry standards
• Prepare reports on projects including material and personnel costs
• Respond to emergencies and supervise work being performed during evenings, nights, and weekends
• Perform other related duties

Preferred Skills

• Ability to perform inspections in all weather conditions which will include nights and weekends
• Strong background in AutoCAD and MS Office suite
• Ability to drive city-owned vehicle
• Preference will be given to those with a motor vehicle driver’s license valid in the State of New York with no restrictions; this license may be required for certain assignments and must be maintained for the duration of appointment in this position

Minimum Qualifications

• One year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, on engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project with a value of $1,000,000 or more
• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work
• Or a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described above
• Or a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus any combination of college or university education and/or experience to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience
• One year of experience credit will be given for:
  • Each 30 semester credits of college or university education leading to a bachelor’s degree in one of the listed disciplines
  • A Master’s degree in one of the listed disciplines
  • A Juris Doctor degree
  • A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or Registered Landscape Architect
• In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I, candidates must have at least one additional year of experience as described above in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least one year as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project
• In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I, candidates must have at least two additional years of experience as described above in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least two additional years as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project
