About the Role

The Board Hardware Engineer serves as the project lead engineer, collaborating with the board architect on future designs, product managers for customer-requested features, mechanical engineering on thermal solutions, physical layout engineers, and SI engineers to ensure the solution meets specified parameters. The role also involves working with the validation team to confirm design parameters are met and providing customer support for specific issues. The engineer creates schematics and functional specifications and interfaces with the firmware team during design bring-up.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret product requirement information into electronic schematic details.
  • Collaborate with component engineering to select and approve new components.
  • Write functional specifications and unit test plans.
  • Learn and utilize the company’s online document control system.
  • Manage and manipulate Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Work with physical design teams to determine component placement and routing constraints.
  • Perform pre- and post-simulation of board designs.
  • Handle multiple assignments while keeping marketing and management informed of progress and roadblocks.
  • Communicate fluently in English with peers, management, marketing, and customers, both verbally and in writing.
  • Coordinate project assignments with contracted design and test services.
  • Support new and past designs through engineering change orders and problem debugging.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience with PCB design and development.
  • Experience performing high-speed PCB designs.
  • Experience designing and laying out DC/DC regulator circuits.
  • Experience with board bring-up, using tools such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and soldering equipment.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of Cadence-Allegro System Capture and PCB Editor software tools.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as:
    • Cadence Sigrity PowerDC and OptimizePI
    • LTspice/PSpice
  • Familiarity with common bus protocols: DDR4, PCIe, UART, I2C, SPI, and USB.
  • Proficiency with office tools: MS Office (Excel, Word, Visio), Google (Sheets, Docs).
  • Desired skills:
    • Experience using Python, C, TCL, VHDL, Verilog, GitHub.
    • Microcontroller programming.
    • High-current DC/DC design and layout.
    • Experience with test equipment: TDR and VNA.
    • Experience using and following checklists.
    • Experience with board layout and PCB stack-up design (a plus).
