At the May 13 meeting, the Glynn County Board of Education unanimously approved the selection of Reggie Jackson as the Interim District 5 Representative. Jackson, currently the Resident Services Director at the Brunswick Housing Authority, will begin serving at the June Board meeting.

Board Actions

  • Approved the April 2025 meeting minutes.
  • Reviewed the March 2025 Financial Report: Year-to-date revenues are at 85.6% of the budget; expenditures are at 70.5%.
  • Reviewed the tentative FY 2026 budget, which includes an 8% increase in local property taxes and adjustments for state health insurance and salary step increases. Final approval will be considered on June 10, 2025.
  • Approved a $60,114.45 credit for Needwood Middle School from Lavender & Associates.
  • Approved a $25,287.42 credit for Brunswick High School’s West Entrance & Driveway from R.H. Tyson Construction.
  • Approved $521,435.90 for Phase I site clearing at the new Glyndale replacement site, including a contingency for unforeseen issues. Ridge Enterprise will handle the project.
  • Approved the new Five-Year Local Facilities Plan Resolution, endorsed by the Georgia Department of Education.
  • Approved the purchase and installation of new media center furniture for Satilla Marsh Elementary for $94,037.69 from Ernie Morris Enterprises, Inc.
  • Approved the purchase of four new 20-ton rooftop AC units for Brunswick High School’s old gym for $74,385.40 from Cregger Company, Inc. The current units are over 10 years old, with only one functioning.
  • Approved the purchase of 2 nodes and turnkey installation for the data center upgrade for $282,128.00 from Dell.
  • Approved the renewal of all school nutrition bid proposals for July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, covering milk, single-serve pizza, commodity processing, paper products, fresh produce, and general food items.
  • Approved the purchase of 200 additional school safety radios for $153,383.32 from Mobile Communications America, funded by a safety grant. Each school will receive approximately 12 radios.
  • Approved the purchase of four new Police Interceptor vehicles from Wade Ford for $199,655.00.
  • Approved the continuation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Coastal Plains High School, outlining educational program terms for at-risk students, including financial arrangements and responsibilities for student services, from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026.

Work Session Updates

  • Received an update on the Cognia Accreditation Engagement Review Report, presented by Accountability and Compliance Director Dr. Shelly Nelson. The district earned an Index of Education Quality (IEQ) score of 320, surpassing Cognia’s network average of 296. Final accreditation status will be determined by Cognia and the Cognia Global Commission at their June 25, 2025, meeting.
  • Received an update on the Para to Teacher Program, a partnership between Glynn County Schools and the College of Coastal Georgia (CCGA). The inaugural cohort graduated on May 9, 2025, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education with dual majors and certification in both Elementary Education and Special Education (P-5). Graduates include:
