About the role

We are seeking a performance-driven, highly motivated BMS/Smart Building Engineer/Consultant (level II-IV) for our Richmond, VA or Chicago, IL office. This role will collaborate with our national ICT/BMS team to grow local services by pursuing new business opportunities and leveraging our firm’s holistic smart technology-centric competitive edge. The ideal candidate will bring diverse experience in intelligent and sustainable facilities, including understanding “future-enabling” trends toward converged networks and IoT technology to promote occupant wellness.

Responsibilities

  • Build controls designs and support project execution under the supervision of a BMS design lead.
  • Prepare controls design drawings and integrated systems specifications for markets including Aviation, Critical Facilities, Financial, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, Light Industry, and others.
  • Prepare BMS drawings, sequencing of operations, and specifications, and perform system design calculations.
  • Assist in selecting equipment for building systems and writing reports.
  • Support project execution, including reviewing submittals and RFIs.
  • Attend project meetings and interface with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders (PICs, PMs, site leaders, and practice area leaders).
  • Work closely with the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing project design team.
  • Travel to sites throughout the U.S. and interface directly with internal clients and external personnel at state-of-the-art facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering preferred.
  • 18 months to 7+ years of experience in the HVAC controls industry as a consultant, contractor, or HVAC engineer.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/electrical instrumentation design and building control sequence of operations.
  • Knowledge of building IT infrastructure.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment with strong organization and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; recent industry publications (presentations, webinars, trade publications) are a plus.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is a plus but not required.
  • Active involvement with ASHRAE, CABA, or other industry organizations is a plus.

Schedule

Flexible work schedule: Monday to Thursday in the office for 9 hours and Friday for 4 hours remotely at home.

Pay

Chicago Pay Range: $65,719 USD – $125,651 USD. Syska-wide Pay Range: $63,719 USD – $110,651 USD. Actual pay will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience, skillsets, and competencies, and may vary based on location.
