Blood Bank Lead Medical Lab Scientist
About the role
Precisely and accurately performs and evaluates a variety of technical procedures in the laboratory. Monitors the day-to-day technical operation of one or more sections of the clinical laboratory. Works closely with the laboratory manager, Director of Laboratory Services, and Medical Director to provide effective oversight of the section. Monitors section quality control and preventive maintenance programs to ensure test accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of technical laboratory tests in assigned specialties, ensuring high levels of accuracy and reliability.
- Evaluate and interpret test results, ensuring proper documentation and reporting for review by physicians or clinical staff.
- Monitor daily laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with established protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and manage the laboratory's quality control program, including regular monitoring of test accuracy and precision.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment, identifying and addressing potential issues before they affect testing procedures.
- Work closely with the Laboratory Manager and Director of Laboratory Services to discuss performance, resolve issues, and ensure operational efficiency.
- Review and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to reflect current best practices and regulatory guidelines.
- Oversee and support laboratory staff, providing training and guidance to maintain optimal performance and adherence to procedures.
- Participate in internal and external audits and inspections to assess laboratory compliance with regulatory standards.
- Ensure timely and accurate handling of laboratory samples, minimizing the risk of contamination, mix-ups, or errors in results.
Requirements
Education: Associate's Degree in Medical Technology, Associate's Degree in Biology, or Associate's Degree in Chemistry.
Licenses/Registrations: Clinical Lab Technologist - Issued by Florida or Compact State.
Experience: Four (4) years of Laboratory experience, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
