About the role
The blender is responsible for fully preparing and personally certifying large batches of dry food ingredients in accordance with Company specifications for use in the manufacturing process. This key position ensures that our food products contain only what they are supposed to contain and in the right proportions.
Key responsibilities
- Accurately weigh and measure ingredients for use in blends.
- Maintain accurate paper records of the quantities of ingredients added to batches.
- Use basic math skills, including fractions, to calculate quantities of ingredients needed for partial batches.
- Assist with detailed cleaning activities in blending room as well as other areas of plant on a regular basis.
- Deliver a clean, well-ordered blending room to replacement each shift.
- Operate a vacuum-assisted lift, digital scales, paper recycling compressor, pallet lift, and mixer.
- Stage all required materials for pending blends in advance of shift change.
- Basic Computer skills required. Prior SAP or inventory control experience is beneficial.
Qualifications and skills
- High School Diploma or GED preferred, but no required.
- Must be able to tolerate the listed physical and environmental demands of this position with or without accommodations.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in written form.
- Must have some work experience doing heavy manual labor within the last 5 years.
- Previous Manufacturing Experience Preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; fingers to grip, and talk or hear.
- The employee periodically is required to reach with hands and arms. May at times need to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Blenders are required to lift up to 50 pound bags of ingredients from floor to chest height of up to 45 times an hour for duration 8- hours shift. Vacuum assist lifts are available for use to ease this burden. However, if a vacuum lift is not functioning, employees must be able to handle the lifting requirements by themselves.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, exposure to extreme heat most likely in the summer months, and vibrations.
- Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions.
- The air in the blending rooms tends to be dusty caused by flour and other ingredients.
Pay and Benefits
