Blender 3D Artists — AI Computer-Use Trainer

About the role

As a Blender 3D artist in this remote, hourly contract role, you will help improve how AI agents learn to use professional desktop software—specifically Blender, one of the most challenging cases due to its dense modal interfaces, keyboard-driven operators, and state-dependent 3D viewport interactions. You will design realistic, challenging Blender tasks, then record yourself completing them using provided tools. Each recording captures the full workflow—actions, interface state, and file changes—serving as both training data and benchmarks for AI models.

A critical part of the role is defining success criteria: specifying what "done correctly" means for each task, including verification steps, intermediate milestones, and common pitfalls. Your expertise in judging correct vs. incorrect outcomes directly shapes how AI agents learn and improve.

Responsibilities

  • Author production-realistic Blender tasks: Write task briefs reflecting real-world studio or client requests (e.g., low-poly props, retopology/UV passes, shader/lighting setups, or scene assembly to camera briefs) with verifiable outcomes.
  • Record expert demonstrations: Set up your environment (files, add-ons, reference assets) and record end-to-end task execution using provided capture tools, producing complete traces of actions, interface state, and file changes.
  • Document workflows step-by-step: Log steps in clear, professional English so another expert can reproduce them.
  • Define verification and success criteria: Specify what the finished result must satisfy, intermediate milestones, and common wrong paths to exclude—creating a rubric for grading agent attempts.
  • Cover a range of difficulty: Design tasks from single-tool operations to multi-step workflows crossing applications (e.g., gathering reference in a browser, managing assets in a file manager, delivering in target formats).
  • Review others' work (for QA roles): Audit traces for task realism, recording completeness, step-to-action mapping, and alignment between success criteria and results.
  • Adhere to project standards: Keep recordings free of personal information, use only approved applications, and rely solely on your expertise (use of closed-source AI assistants is prohibited).

Requirements

  • 2–5 years of professional experience as a Blender-focused 3D artist (contract, studio, or freelance), or equivalent demonstrable practical experience.
  • Proven proficiency in Blender for production work: modeling, clean topology, modifiers, UV unwrapping, materials/shading, lighting, and rendering (Cycles/EEVEE).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills: ability to recognize and explain issues like bad topology, shading/normals problems, scale inconsistencies, and non-manifold geometry.
  • Compatible computer: Windows 11, Ubuntu (X11), or macOS with hardware capable of running Blender and a screen recorder simultaneously. Batches are assigned by OS.
  • English proficiency (minimum B2) with clear written communication to document workflows for other experts.
  • Ability to apply detailed rubrics consistently and make repeatable quality judgments across tasks.
  • Highly detail-oriented, self-directed, and suited for remote, flexible-hour contract work.
  • Previous experience with AI data training, annotation, evaluation, or benchmark work (preferred).

Benefits

  • Paid, flexible remote work where your Blender expertise directly shapes AI agent training.
  • Opportunity to work on frontier agent training (your demonstrations and success criteria become both training data and benchmarks).
  • Clear guidelines and structured review focused on practical 3D correctness.
  • Progression paths into QA and QA lead roles, with ongoing batches based on performance and availability.
