About the role
Custom Truck One Source operates in Elk Point SD and seeks an individual to operate an air-driven, steel-shot blaster to remove rust, slag, and other unwanted properties from trailers and trailer components. The position involves preparing components and trailers for grit-blasting in a pre-paint area and performing other tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently use blasting and cleaning techniques in the preparation of surfaces for coating
- Abrases surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment
- Shovels or pours abrasives, such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper
- Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action
- Loads parts on racks in enclosed rooms, into tumbling barrels, or into cabinets
- Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel
- Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surface of parts
- Manually directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval
- Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment when blasting
- Disassembles sandblasting equipment and cleans equipment, using solvent, wire brushes, and dry cloth
- Maintains all equipment in good working condition
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience
- Proficient in modern painting techniques and equipment
- Good working knowledge of industrial paints, primers, and thinners
- Knowledge of various machines, painting practices, and techniques
- Ability to disassemble sandblasting equipment and clean it
- Must be able to work in cold and hot weather conditions
- Ability to grip, pull, and push heavy objects
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
