About the role

Custom Truck One Source operates in Elk Point SD and seeks an individual to operate an air-driven, steel-shot blaster to remove rust, slag, and other unwanted properties from trailers and trailer components. The position involves preparing components and trailers for grit-blasting in a pre-paint area and performing other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently use blasting and cleaning techniques in the preparation of surfaces for coating
• Abrases surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment
• Shovels or pours abrasives, such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper
• Masks specified areas of object to protect from abrading action
• Loads parts on racks in enclosed rooms, into tumbling barrels, or into cabinets
• Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel
• Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surface of parts
• Manually directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval
• Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment when blasting
• Disassembles sandblasting equipment and cleans equipment, using solvent, wire brushes, and dry cloth
• Maintains all equipment in good working condition

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years of experience
• Proficient in modern painting techniques and equipment
• Good working knowledge of industrial paints, primers, and thinners
• Knowledge of various machines, painting practices, and techniques
• Ability to disassemble sandblasting equipment and clean it
• Must be able to work in cold and hot weather conditions
• Ability to grip, pull, and push heavy objects
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time
