About the Role

As a Blast Operator / Deburr Technician, you will play a critical, hands-on role in preparing and finishing the metal components that power Ideal Electric’s specialty high-power electrical motors and generators. You will be responsible for cleaning surfaces using abrasive blasting equipment and removing burrs or imperfections to ensure all parts meet precise engineering specifications. This position requires access to, or development of, technology or technical data that is subject to U.S. export control laws, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The successful candidate must be a "U.S. Person" as defined by the ITAR (22 C.F.R120.62) or be able to obtain the appropriate U.S. government authorization (export license) to access such technology or technical data. U.S. Person status is required for this position.

A U.S. Person includes a citizen of the United States, a permanent resident alien (Green Card holder), a refugee, or a person granted asylum.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Blasting Equipment: Set up and run abrasive blast booths/cabinets to clean, descale, or prepare surfaces of large metal castings and components
  • Deburring & Metal Finishing: Utilize hand tools, pneumatic grinders, deburring tools, and file systems to break sharp edges and eliminate manufacturing imperfections
  • Blueprint Comprehension: Read and interpret basic shop orders, drawings, and charts to determine finishing requirements
  • Quality Assurance: Inspect finished parts visually and with basic measuring gauges to guarantee compliance with precision tolerances and finish specifications
  • Material Handling: Safely load, unload, and stage heavy metal parts using overhead cranes, hoists, or forklifts following shop safety guidelines
  • Shop Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and log data for the blast media, filtration systems, and localized equipment to ensure continuous performance

Requirements

  • High School diploma or certified equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in industrial deburring, metal finishing, sandblasting, or heavy manufacturing environment preferred
  • Familiarity with industrial power tools, grinders, and material lifting equipment (hoists/cranes)
  • Exceptional manual dexterity and a sharp eye for finding surface defects and sharp edge variations
  • Strong teamwork approach with open communication skills to align with the welding and machining supervisors

Working Conditions

  • Daily minimum of 8 hours; weekly 40-hour minimum
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, overtime, and occasional weekends or nights depending on production demands
  • Position operates entirely on-site within a heavy manufacturing plant setting

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee:

  • is regularly required to listen/hear, talk, read, write, and count
  • is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, push, pull, bend, crouch, crawl, kneel, stoop, climb, and balance; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; enter small and/or confined spaces
  • will be required to, with regularity, ascend and work from ladders, platforms, scaffolding, and stairs to heights of up to 20 feet
  • will be required to, with regularity, lift and or move weights of up to 30 pounds unassisted
  • must be able to exhibit specific vision abilities required by this job which include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to inspect component finishes
  • Required to take and pass regulatory respirator test (FIT)

Additional Requirements

  • Although rare, occasional travel may be necessary. In such cases, the employee may be required to:
    • obtain and maintain a valid passport and US-issued driver's license
