Biorepository Specialist I

About the role

This position facilitates patient enrollment and carries out day-to-day operations of the Brown Cancer Center (BCC) Biorepository as assigned by the Cancer Trials Program leadership and BCC Senior Manager, Clinical Research Center. The role assists in coordinating daily activities related to the collection, banking, and distribution of biospecimens in accordance with good laboratory practice, good clinical practice, and applicable policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate patient enrollment by participating in BCC clinics, confirming eligibility of potential participants, and tracking and conducting follow-up visits where applicable.
• Collect episodic and longitudinal biospecimens and relevant data in accordance with specimen use protocols under the BCC Biorepository.
• Log biospecimens collected by self, internal colleagues, or received from external partners.
• Distribute biospecimens in accordance with specimen use protocols and relevant policies and procedures.
• Document actions as required.
• Participate in Biorepository technology training and use.
• Enter relevant episodic and longitudinal clinical data in the Biorepository database accurately and timely.
• Interact with human subjects and act as a liaison to patients and families, demonstrating appropriate behavior for participating in BCC clinics and consenting cancer patients or healthy volunteers.
• Work collaboratively with the BCC Biorepository Manager and staff to determine dynamic scheduling of consented subjects for clinics and liaise with physicians and partner hospital staff.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, such as monitoring laboratory equipment, ordering supplies, creating written procedures for specimen processing and laboratory maintenance, leading specimen use protocols, and producing reports.
• Obtain, process, and ship biospecimens for specific clinical trials supported by the BCC Cancer Trials Program (CTP).
• Attend multidisciplinary clinics, conferences, workshops, and other learning opportunities as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Competencies

• Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Experience in specimen processing and/or clinical trials or biorepositories.
• Knowledge of human subject studies.
• Demonstrated capacity to create supportive work environments, collaborate effectively on teams, and serve diverse populations.

Pay

Target compensation range: $21.99 – $32.98 per hour, commensurate with candidate experience.
