Collects, processes, and stores biological specimens for laboratory testing and research purposes. Serves as a supporting role to facilitate research by ensuring specimens are properly handled without performing hypothesis-based research or analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, processes, and stores biological specimens according to established protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintains accurate records of specimen collection, processing, and storage.
  • Ensures that specimens are properly labeled and tracked throughout the collection and storage process.
  • Performs quality control checks on specimens to ensure that they meet established standards.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies, and orders new supplies as needed.
  • Communicates with other laboratory staff and researchers to ensure that specimens are collected and processed in a timely and efficient manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science or equivalent certification and experience, required.
  • Coursework in anatomy, physiology, statistics, and relevant research methods, preferred.
  • Two years of laboratory research experience or equivalent, required.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally: Bend/twist, climb stairs/ladder, lifting/carrying 11-20 lbs, pushing/pulling 26-40 lbs.
  • Frequently: Lifting/carrying 0-10 lbs, pushing/pulling 0-25 lbs, standing, walking.
  • Continuously: Audible speech, color vision, computer skills, decision making, depth perception, flexing/extending of neck, hand use (grasping, gripping, turning), hearing acuity, interpreting data, peripheral vision, problem solving, reaching above shoulder, repetitive hand/arm use, seeing (far/near), sitting, squat/kneel.
