Biometrics (Fingerprint) Technician - On Call
About the role
This is an on-call (casual) Biometric Technician position supporting the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Application Support Center (ASC) operations in Ft. Myers, FL. Amentum provides all required job training for qualified candidates. On-call employees are expected to be available Monday through Friday from 7:45am to 4:15pm for substitute coverage as needed. Hours are not guaranteed, and employees are notified on short notice—occasionally the night before or day of. This role is ideal for candidates seeking flexibility, supplemental income, or an active work environment without a committed schedule.
Responsibilities
- Complete biometrics registration for applicants seeking legal immigration to the United States, including capturing electronic fingerprints, photographs, and signatures within established processing times.
- Ensure all individuals entering the ASC are approved applicants or visitors; provide interior and exterior crowd control using stanchions or rails.
- Deliver front-line customer service as a representative of Amentum and the U.S. Government, maintaining a cheerful, sensitive, and respectful demeanor.
- Safeguard Personal Identifiable Information (PII), including applicant paperwork, identifications, and electronic biometric data.
- Screen applicants for valid appointment notices and identification prior to facility entry; conduct visual inspections of applicants and belongings.
- During health crises (e.g., pandemics), ask health-related questions and deny entry per USCIS requirements.
- Perform periodic interior and exterior facility checks; report concerns to the Site Supervisor.
- Assist in contacting local law enforcement or first responders when necessary.
- Manage administrative tasks, such as tracking processing times, reconciling biometrics paperwork, maintaining visitor logs, and completing facility check documentation.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to speak and write in English.
- Ability to stand for the duration of scheduled shifts (excluding breaks) and physically handle applicants’ hands to capture quality fingerprints.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the public and use basic computer skills.
- Successful completion of biometrics training and certification within sixty days of hire.
