About the role

Provides training mission activities by delivering biometrics and forensics instruction to ensure effective understanding and application of skills taught. Develops, reviews, and refines lesson plans in accordance with the program. Evaluates and assesses student baseline understanding of tasks, delivering instruction in both classroom and scenario settings.

Responsibilities

• Perform ongoing evaluation of student knowledge and skills, providing verbal feedback and written evaluations.
• Review, refine, update, and comment on lesson plans; write personal lesson outlines in support of existing Programs of Instruction (POI) and lesson plans.
• Design and develop training materials in support of lesson plans and POI guidelines.
• Develop realistic training scenarios to replicate real-world operations.
• Plan, develop, and implement training courses in support of POI.
• Perform transport, setup, tear-down, and reset of training equipment.
• Develop and implement evaluation tools to assess participant learning.
• Conduct performance assessments and provide constructive feedback for improvement to courses and training materials.
• Instruct on evaluating surfaces and items of evidentiary value to determine optimal collection methods for latent fingerprints, palm prints, and hand knife-edge prints using tactical field techniques and laboratory procedures.
• Teach enhancement, lifting, developing, and preservation of friction ridge detail using lights, gels, powders, and other approved methods.
• Provide instruction in photographing fingerprints, biometric data, and forensic evidence with proper labeling, scaling, and use of various digital cameras and lenses.
• Train on detecting, collecting, and preserving DNA from surfaces and individuals.
• Teach forensic photography of structures, vehicles, individuals, and evidence.
• Instruct on collecting fingerprints from live and deceased individuals, including use of postmortem spoons/cards and FBI 10-print cards.
• Guide participants in processing, submitting, and presenting biometric and forensic results verbally, in writing, and through DOJ submission systems.
• Train in live capture/scan of fingerprints with tactical biometric devices, including mass-enrollment capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and 5 years of experience in a related field; OR
• Nine (9) years of relevant training and/or military experience; OR
• An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and/or military experience.

Qualifications

• International Association for Identifiers (IAI) certification.
• Experience performing fingerprint and DNA collection and processing, and crime scene photography.
