Position Summary

Technician responsible for checking, maintaining and repairing a wide variety of biomedical equipment, completing appropriate documentation, providing in-service education and working on special projects to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective utilization of medical technology.

Accountabilities

  • Repairs, maintains and inventories a wide variety of biomedical equipment through assessment, troubleshooting and diagnosis.
  • Verifies all medical equipment is in a safe and efficient working order using a variety of tools (electronic software, computers, specialized hand and power tools).
  • Documents work performed using a database management system and/or written reports to ensure appropriate records are maintained to meet hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Supports numerous HHC affiliates and contracted services throughout the state, providing service and support.
  • Participates in the strategic planning for medical technology through pre-purchase assessment of medical devices/equipment and evaluation of replacement needs.
  • Ensures appropriate technologies are utilized in the hospital and provides input into the budgeting process.
  • Educates staff on the proper use of biomedical equipment and user-type diagnostic procedures through formal in-services and informal training.
  • Aids with special projects by utilizing specialized knowledge and skills to achieve HHC goals in a cost-effective and patient-centered manner.
  • Designs, develops, and refines techniques for biomedical equipment, tests product performance to verify safe and proficient operation.
  • Collaborates with an internal team of multidisciplinary clientele to deliver quality services exceeding customer requirements, resulting in superior patient care and safety.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Electronics or Biomedical Technology preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience as a Biomedical Technician or related field.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • Strong customer focus.
