BIOMEDICAL TECHNICIAN I -

About the Role

Provides clinical equipment services under the supervision of Clinical Engineering management. Validates and inspects clinical equipment for completeness, mechanical and electrical safety, and proper operation. Performs planned maintenance inspections, calibrations, and repairs of general biomedical equipment. Assists other technicians in troubleshooting and major repair of complex equipment. Ensures adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.

Shift differentials: 17% for Weekday Nights, 26% for Weekend Nights, and 15% for Weekend Days.

Responsibilities

• Development: Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops.
• Technical Service:
  • Perform performance assurance (PA) inspections, scheduled maintenance, electrical safety inspections (ESI), and operation verification procedures (OVP) on general biomedical equipment.
  • Repair, install, and calibrate general biomedical equipment; inform supervisors of the status of repairs, scheduled inspections, unusual equipment situations, and any other customer concerns.
  • Work with, direct, and document the activities of subcontractors, vendors, and outside service technicians to ensure proper service delivery.
• Projects: Assist with service operations special projects as assigned.
• Regulatory: Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the equipment database to include inventory, PA schedules, nomenclature, and service history; adhere to the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), including all regulatory agency compliance and other applicable policies and procedures.
• Documentation: Ensure all service and documentation is complete, timely, and accurate.
• Customer Service: Adhere to the Mission, Vision, and Values of UNMH; build and maintain customer relationships, discuss equipment status and functionality with appropriate staff members.
• Inventory:
  • Perform periodic inspections of current inventory status.
  • Verify the completion of security analysis for new customer equipment.
  • Perform Incoming Inspections (II) to maintain a complete and accurate inventory of medical devices, including trial and evaluation, rental and loaner equipment, in addition to permanently assigned equipment inventory.
  • Make recommendations regarding inventory.

Qualifications

• Education:
  • Essential: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Nonessential: Associate Degree in a related discipline.
• Experience:
  • Essential: Related degree or certificate, verifiable military training in a maintenance MOS/NEC, or 3 years of related electronic and/or mechanical experience.
  • Essential: Knowledge and ability to operate personal computers to open and close work orders and complete technical documentation and reporting.
• Credentials:
  • Nonessential: AAMI National Medical Equipment Association Certification or Certified BioMedical Equipment Technician (CBET).

Physical Requirements

• Lift, carry, push, and/or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and items between 50 and 100 pounds or more with assistance.
• Perform work in unusual positions using full body mobility with frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, twisting, and turning.
• Working conditions: May be required to work on ladders or scaffolding.
• Exposure to hazardous materials: Chemicals, biohazardous materials; required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• May be required to travel to various work sites.
