Biomedical Technician Apprentice
About the role
This learning-focused role involves responding to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, perform repairs, and conduct planned maintenance on basic biomedical equipment. The position is customer-facing, serving as the face of GE Healthcare at customer sites in Houston, TX. The apprenticeship is designed to prepare candidates for a long-term career in field service.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate basic customer biomedical equipment issues and implement appropriate repairs
- Perform planned maintenance (PM), safety, and environmental inspections
- Maintain effective customer relations and ensure resolution and proper follow-up
- Support GE Healthcare and customer facility contracts, aligning with business goals and objectives
- Assist more experienced technicians on progressive repairs and resolutions
- Work as a member of a local team to deliver efficient service to all accounts within the assigned area
- Document all repair actions and submit reports/summaries according to schedule
- Maintain approved parts inventory and manage vendor’s service delivery processes in compliance with GE Healthcare policies
- Ensure proper care of spares, tools, and test equipment and ensure calibration
- Enhance and maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment
- Identify and report all customer quality or compliance concerns immediately to the Quality Organization
- Demonstrate professionalism, emotional intelligence, and resilience in high-pressure clinical environments
- Work as a member of a local team to deliver efficient service to all accounts within the assigned area
Requirements
- AS, BS degree, military education, certificate program, current student with less than 12 months from completion OR High School Diploma/GED with 6 months experience servicing electronic, IT or mechanical equipment
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED with demonstrated work experience, or a completed AS or BS degree strongly preferred
- Experience in customer-facing roles
- Experience interfacing both internal team members and external customers as part of a solution-based service process
- Knowledge of electronic digital circuitry and understanding of electronic and electro-mechanical devices
- Strong customer communication skills
- Change agent and process-oriented
- Analytical and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy-to-understand manner
