Two openings available. Fixed-term, non-tenure faculty positions at a rank commensurate with experience. Academic-year, nine-month appointments with reappointment contingent on program needs, funding, and performance. Initial appointment is for one year. Eligibility for Designation B status (five-year, rolling appointments) after seven semesters of exemplary performance.

Responsibilities

  • In-person and online instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level (approximately 3 courses per semester). Teaching assignments based on candidate’s expertise and program needs.
  • Service, outreach, and curriculum development, based on individual expertise and interest.
  • Professional engagement, such as involvement with medical laboratory-related professional societies, is strongly encouraged.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in biological sciences, public health, education, health sciences, or a related field.
  • Hold a clinical certification/credential (such as MLS, MB, etc.) or be certification eligible. More information on eligibility/routes to certification.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability as reflected in experiences educating or training people.

Qualifications

  • Experience with discipline-based education research, scholarship of teaching and learning, and/or scholarly approaches to curriculum development.
  • Evidence of working collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Experience teaching in a relevant field as an instructor of record.
  • Professional experience developing and/or disseminating knowledge in a relevant field through research, outreach, publication, or presentations.
  • Participation in professional societies (such as ASCLS, ASCP, etc.).
  • History of ongoing professional development.
  • Work experience in the medical laboratory field.

About the program

The Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics (BLD) Program, established in 1926, is within the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University. BLD offers two undergraduate degrees: Biomedical Laboratory Science and Medical Laboratory Science (a NAACLS-accredited program), as well as three graduate degrees: an MA in Biomedical Laboratory Science, an MS in Clinical Laboratory Science, and an MS in Biomedical Laboratory Operations. Primary disciplines taught include hematology and hemostasis, molecular diagnostics, scientific writing, laboratory management, pathology, clinical chemistry, immunology, immunohematology, and medical microbiology.

Pay

$70,000 - $90,000 per year. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with experience.
