Summary

The Biomedical Engineer will have hands-on understanding of basic network protocols, practical hands-on experience with Server backups, ACL, VPN, HL7, EMR connectivity, and Networking knowledge of configuring medical equipment to a network.

What you will do

  • Information Gathering – Collect technical and clinical details, system inventories, confirm POCs, and support gap analysis
  • Specification Development – Define and validate system requirements, compliance, and functionality with stakeholders
  • Technical Analysis – Evaluate equipment and systems based on performance, integration, usability, and cost
  • Risk Assessment – Assess risks related to safety, security, reliability, and connectivity, and support ERA submissions

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (ABET-accredited) or Certification as a Clinical Engineer (CCE)
  • A minimum of three years of hospital or healthcare experience maintaining medical equipment or managing a hospital medical equipment program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of concepts related to computer based medical systems, networking protocols, and information security as it applies to medical technology within VHA
  • Demonstrated competency in the ability to conduct a medical equipment management program that is compliant with applicable healthcare standards and regulatory agencies
  • Demonstrated skill in communicating and working collaboratively with key stakeholders, including technical and professional staff at various levels of the organization
  • Understanding of regulatory agencies’ requirements: NIST, AAMI, JC, NFPA 99 and 101
  • Responding to FDA Medical Device Alerts and managing Recall corrective action plans
  • Monitoring and steering the Medical Equipment Management Plan – MEMP
  • Medical Device Life Cycle management and replacement forecasting / planning
  • Familiarity with industry regulatory requirements and the International Standards for Medical Center and Health Care Facility Organizations

Safety Requirements

  • Maintain a safe working environment for self and others if they come in contact within the biomed area in accordance with the facility’s policies
  • Follow OSHA guidelines in regard to blood borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, radiation, sharp instruments and/or tools, hazardous liquids, and operating devices
  • Ontime completion of safety trainings assignments
  • Must have sensory ability to distinguish hot & cold ranges of temperature, surfaces, fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and detect/distinguish colors
  • Must be able to carry or lift up to 50 pounds routinely
