About the role
Lincoln Land Community College is seeking a Biology Lab Assistant to support laboratory preparation and cleanup for introductory biology classes, as well as maintain the needs of plants and animals in the department.
Responsibilities
- Duties vary weekly based on class schedules.
- During summer and breaks: assist the lab supervisor and coordinator in reorganizing labs and cleaning lab/storage spaces.
- During fall and spring semesters: prepare materials and equipment for teaching labs and clean glassware.
- Feed and water animals and plants, maintaining their habitats year-round.
- Update wall displays for the Department of Natural and Agricultural Sciences.
- Uphold LLCC’s mission and standards of conduct in interactions with students, staff, faculty, and the public.
- Comply with FERPA and other regulations regarding confidentiality of student and institutional records.
Requirements
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
- Enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours) during the semester of employment (exception: summer term).
- Complete LLCC’s mandatory harassment prevention training within 30 days of employment.
- Demonstrate responsibility and reliability.
- Able to read and follow lab protocols and feeding instructions.
- Capable of lifting up to 35 lbs and working safely in a lab environment.
- Comfortable feeding animals and cleaning habitats.
- All majors welcome, but preference given to biology, horticulture, or aquarium/animal enthusiasts.
- If working with minors, employment contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
Pay
Student workers will be paid minimum wage.
Schedule
Up to 15 hours per week. Position is based at the main campus.
