Biologist Field Team Lead
About the role
Stantec's Colorado team is currently seeking an experienced Biologist for our Environmental Services Group based out of either Denver or Fort Collins, Colorado.
Responsibilities
- Planning, overseeing, and/or conducting wildlife and plant field survey techniques to inventory and monitor for special status species for a variety of different project types including renewable energy, energy transmission and generation, mining, transportation, and private development.
- Leading the preparation and review of technical documents, such as baseline survey reports for natural resource studies (e.g., wildlife, vegetation, wetlands) and/or sections of NEPA documents.
- Aid in the development of proposals (scope and/or budgets) for natural resource tasks as part of a team.
- Ability to travel throughout the state and occasionally across the Mountain West to conduct surveys. This role will require travel overnight for multiple nights, approximately up to 60 - 80% of the time (candidate dependent).
Requirements
- Experience working with wildlife, plants, and habitats, in the Colorado and the Mountain West.
- Past experience working as a consultant in the natural resources field is preferred.
- Desire to travel and conduct a variety of wildlife and habitat surveys.
- Experience with lead authorship of technical documents (e.g., species-specific habitat assessments, Eagle Conservation Plans, Habitat Conservation Plans, Natural Resource Management Strategies, Environmental Assessments) preferred.
- Ability to validate and accurately analyze information and make sound decisions.
- Ability to manage risks and safety appropriately, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Effectiveness in resource planning and results delivery.
- Ability to prioritize and balance workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment.
- Eager to learn and be part of a local team of resource specialists supporting clients in renewables, transmission, mining, and other industries.
- Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree with 3-10 years of relevant experience.
- Past experience working as a consultant in the natural resources field is preferred but not required.
- Experience working with wildlife, plants, and habitats in the field is required.
Skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
